Introducing rBoot, the boot CD that works with Snow Leopard and Lion! It will even boot xMove created installer partitions. Available for download at tonymacx86.com/downloads.
Features:
- No kernel included - boots both 10.6.x Snow Leopard and 10.7.x Lion installations.
- Boots xMove-created 10.7 Lion Installer- will NOT boot the 10.7 Lion USB Thumb Drive
- PCI Root graphics fix for Gigabyte motherboards - Asus, MSI, etc... may require PCIRootUID=0 at boot screen for full resolution
- Chimera 1.5.4 bootloader
NOTE: iBoot is still our recommendation for initial installation and booting the Retail Snow Leopard 10.6 or 10.6 3 DVD.
Please do not upload or redistribute rBoot to any other sites.
If this utility has helped you, please consider a contribution to support further rBoot development. Thanks in advance, and enjoy!

I have a Lion Install DVD and a freshly reformatted hard drive. Should I wait for the next version of iBoot or use this new tool? I can wait if it's coming shortly. Also want to try CustomBeast. I have tried a few times to install Snow Leopard and the 64-bit kernel doesn't load for some reason. I am hoping that starting with Lion will work.
Perfect timing. I am about to build one this weekend. I am prepared with iBoot but now it's even better. Thanks Tony.
Great site.
So can this do a fresh lion install? And why do you suggest iboot instead of rboot?
@Anonymous-
This CD will rescue existing installations of Snow Leopard or Lion. It will also boot an xMove created partitions. It will boot xMove, allowing a fresh Lion install.
iBoot 3.1.1 is the latest and most recommended Boot CD for the Snow Leopard Retail DVD. Because iBoot contains the latest Snow Leopard vanilla kernel, it will boot the 10.6 or 10.6.3 Retail DVD, as it's always done.
@Gordo-
This will not boot the Retail DVD, but it will boot an xMove created USB stick. This will allow for a clean Lion install, I've done it myself in my guide here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=168&t=32306
It also works with 64 bit :D
Finally here are the great news I was waiting for :))) Thank you Tony! you're awesome!!!
Not working with Lion DVD. (InstallESD.dmg to DVD)
Error: Can't find mach kernel.
For, who want to try it. :)
I will be the first to admit when I'm just foolish and naive, but am I the only one who is confused as to what this does?
Thanks Tony! I just started working on a new system tonight and this came at the perfect time!
Thanks !!!
What is the difference between rBoot and rBoot LE?
THANK YOU
rBoot LE = rBoot Laptop Edition
Thanks! This is a much needed tool and will come in handy! You da man Tony!
this is what i'm waiting for
AND rBoot for netbook, in other words, for usb drives ?
I have a problem with rBoot, it can boot an xMove partition, but to use mouse and keyboard i have to wait 10 minutes each time! Why? How i can fix it?
Thanks tony....

But can any body help me to boot from the hard-disk alone , it always says boot failure and i've tried the latest versions of both Chameleon and chimera ,
i Have a Satellite C660-1HE with Intel Core i3 and ATI 5470 , 4Gb ram
P.S non of the iBoot Versions are able to boot My lion :$ :$
Tnx @ Gordo74 for the guide (http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=168&t=32306)
Make a clean install on the P55A-UD3, i5 750 & GT240 SilentCell. All works perfect for now . but not full tested yet. I hope can make a full test this week.
tony, how can I dual boot Mac OS X Lion and Windows Developer Preview x64 on my system? I can't figure it out. Thanks!
tip:
can be used in easy boot cd {in NST folder in c:/}
Tony, I messed up something trying to follow your dual boot guide for installing Windows, but I did it on a second HDD instead of the one that Lion is on. Now the computer just restarts whenever I try to boot OS X, even with iBoot. I think I need to re-apply my custom DSDT but I don't know how I can do that.
Can rBoot help?
I have made a Lion install USB flash drive, I needed a working SL to do it but now I can use this to install Lion on any machine without SL, booting from rBoot CD.
seems no mouse support when using in Virtual Box. (10.6 and 10.7 Installer)
Two days using iBoot & Multibeast to install Snow Leopard just to create a partition to install Lion from. Used xMove on retail Lion and USB Retail Lion but iBoot would not boot the partitions. GB H67A-UD3H-B3 (Bios F6) using edited DSDT with i7 3.4 Ghz, Intel HD 3000 Graphics and WD Raptor drive.
rBoot has me installing Lion from the previously created partition now. I still have some hair left ;-/
If your having problems installing Lion from xMove created partitions - USE RBOOT!
Forum is great
How do I install this to a USB key? I always get "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" when selecting the USB key from the MB boot menu. I have a Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3-F8.
I try to rescue my snow leopard installation. It crashed. Unable to boot with iboot also. I get "Can't find mach_kernell" using rBoot.
normal booting gets me to the leopard screen but mouse and keyboard not working ;-(
Anyone can help me with that?
Hi Tony,
Under what circumstances should someone use this?
What are the pre-requisites to install it? (e.g. have found their ESD and used that to xmove)?
What sequence of steps should someone take? (e.g. using the Images -> Burn option with the .iso, should I have prepared the new HDD drive first?)
There are a gadzillion forum posts, so something authoritative would be very helpful. Perhaps the .txt file on the resulting .iso could point someone to such instructions.
The name 'rboot' really doesn't tell me much, nor does 'xmove'.
Thanks,
TheRebelMC
I guess the rboot LE is for the MBP or MBA. Am I right? And I should burn the rboot ISO to a CD and boot from the disk drive?
i applied the software update to 10.0.2 and now it isnt bopoting anymore , how to fix it now :)?
Any help with the "can't find match kernel" error?
I have to use rBoot to boot Lion (10.7- 10-7.2) on my i5 system [socket 1156, i5-760 CPU / Gigabyte P55M-UD2 MB] otherwise I don't have a working USB Keyboard / USB Mouse. I also had to do this for the Lion install from the Installer partition.
This was not an issue with 10.6.8 / MultiBeast 3.9. Any suggestions? I do have a working system, I just have to start with rBoot to use it.
hello i have some question i instal mac osx lion 10.7 in my pc and in midlle of instalation i format and instal so i reboot my pc and wen go start dont load sistem mac can you help me i download iboot and dont work i donwload rboot le but i know somethink im not make good i dont know how i boot for mac sistem working please help me
I have an xMove created installer partition and a mistakenly created clean Lion install (I reformatted my SL partition whilst installing Lion...) rBoot won't boot either of these. It freezes on the Apple logo and spinning wheel - with the wheel freezing. After a while the optical drive spins down.
(This is on a GA-Z68P-DS3 with i7 2600k, LG BD/DVDRW and 4GB of RAM)
Trying to rBoot my XMove installer (10.7.2 sourced) the -v option stops outputting stuff after com_lnx2mac_Realtek, but the lines before are talking about Refusing new Kexts to do with IOACPIFamily saying loaded copies with different executable UUIDS are already present?
Not sure if this is of help.
Rboot doesn't have mach_kernel, your normal installation of OS X on your hard drive does though (generally speaking).
You are meant to boot with Rboot then choose your hard drive and add bootflags if needed before starting the OS.
can I use rboot as a usb thumb drive?
Is there a update of rBoot LE. I boot in my Lion 10.7.2 after 8 minutes. After I enter Lion it's only 2 min and ERROR screen enters (you must reboot sistem - it freezes)!
Thank you - mISOk
Thanks!!! It saved me from the "PCI Configuration Begin" bug when upgrading to 10.6.8 XD
