As of MacBook Pro Software Update 1.3, and Apple's release of the Core i5 and i7 MacBook Pros, many more Core i processors, possibly all, are natively supported by Mac OS X. Part of this software release is a new kernel, known as 10.3.1 Darwin Kernel. One of it's key new features is to enable support for the new MacBook Pro CPUs, namely the Core i5-520M, Core i5-540M, and Core i7-620M. So now we can use this kernel to support these and many other Core i3/i5/i7 processors for our Hackintoshes.
What does iBoot Supported offer that iBoot doesn't?
- No need for busratio=xx for Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processors to boot the Retail DVD.
- Updated kernel for use with 10.6.3. You can use iBoot Supported without ever installing Chameleon if you want to. This makes it a great rescue disk option as well.
- ATY_Init.kext alternative graphics card support.
- Install Succeeded! You'll no longer get the Install Failed message at end of install. You'll now see this nice message:
To replace your kernel with the 10.3.1 Vanilla Kernel, use MultiBeast 2.0.0 or later.
Below is a list of all Intel Core i CPUs. If iBoot Supported works for you, post your processor in the comments below, or in the forum here. Then I'll add it to this table. My hypothesis is that all of them will work, but we'll have to see. As always, any Core Solo and Core2 machines will work. Pre-Core Intel CPUs and AMD CPUs will not work,
Please help me test this! I'm really curious to see if it actually supports all of these! Good luck!

Wow, great!
Does it bring an advantage to use the new kernel for i7-860?
My Report
i5 660 on GigaByte H55-UD2H// GigaByte Geforce 9800GT 1GB
is necessary to replace the extras folder of the existing root "preboot.dmg" (if not
replaced = kernel Panic)
660 is reported as i5 Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3.33
Bus ratio is not required
memory speed remains poorly identified DDR3 800mhz
instead of DDR3 1333mhz
Finally starts in 64bit kernel mode!
ALC889 sound automatically detected DSDT is not required
"Houston, we have a problem!"
OSX86 completely ignores smbios.plist
What I can do?
i7-980x isn't on your list. I have hopes that its now supported, but I haven't tested it yet.
@Anonymous-
Thanks for the info- forgot about the 6-core Core i7-980X! Unfortunately these aren't supported by OS X yet. Better stick to the patched kernel for now. ;)
Yes! I finally got all my 6 Gb of ram working!
It worked until I installed chameleon from the multibeast package, so now i know where the error is.
Everything works like a charm with iBoot. Sound, Graphics and memory.
CPU Finally showing as i5 750 (Dual Xeon before)
RAM Speed is finally correct 1550 MHz (1333 before)
Finally able to boot from the HDD.
I still get performance issues with the interface. Example: if I enable 2 widgets at the same time, the "water" effect isn't smooth at all. I thought it was a graphics card problem, but I can play Portal at maximum on FullHD.
NTFS partitions don't work anymore.
DSDT and SMBIOS are ignored, shows dual core xeon, ram does not report actual frequency, audio freezes after returning from sleep.
Supported 64bit kernel and extensions but only support vanilla, instead ignores DSDT :-(
Tony, we keep waiting for you to release the new multibeast?
Will X58 boards work with this? I am trying to wrap my head around all of this.
Tony,
Thank you so much for your efforts. I'm running Snow Leopard on an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro motherboard with an EVGA GTX 295 2nd Edition. No DSDT was required for me. Sleep is also working. Running the 10.3.1 kernel as well.
It's unbelievable.
I booted using the iBoot ATI 2-10-2010 CD with an ATI 4850.
The thing is that Preboot.dmg from iBoot Supported (Extensions.mkext) fails with my ATI 4850 card. Therefore, I copied mach_kernel from here to your previous iBoot ATI CD afterwards.
What about the GTX 295? I have 3 extensions under /Extra/Extensions. They are: IOUSBFamily.kext, NVGTX295.Fix.kext and SleepEnabler.kext.
Using gfxutil, I found the pciroot entry to use for my template and created the hex dump to add to the /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist file.
CUDA is functional on both GPUs. I saw a combined 920 GFLOPs when running 2 nBody demos simultaneously.
I'm also using the IOUSBFamily.kext 10.6.2 under SLE. That's the only thing changed under SLE. Otherwise, it's 99% vanilla.

Hi Tony,
Following your instructions, the installation on my new Thinkpad T510, Core i7-620M, 512MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M, original 10.6.0 SL installation DVD, comes to a grinding halt when it reaches the OSX installation screen. Is it a good idea to upgrade the OSX installation DVD to version 10.6.3 or won't that make a difference?
Do I need an empty hard disk or can I install OS X on a partition?
iboot supported works fine with my configuration:
Intel Core 2 duo E6600
Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6
nvidia 7900 GS
8gb ram (with -force64 kernel flag)
Upgraded to 10.6.2, couldn't get 10.6.3 working for some reason.
chflags hidden mach_kernel
Can't thank you enough for all your hard work in making this idiot-proof, read: so easy, I can do it! I found iBoot Supported to be faster, easier and more successful than the previous guide. (I originally had some problems updating to 10.6.3, mouse/keyboard not working)
Up and running fantastic! i5 750, Gigabyte P55-USB3, DDR3-1600, 8800GT, etc.
THANK YOU!
Hi am using i7-860,biostar t-P55,gigabyte 250,installed in clean install and after finished updated to 1.6.3. yet its not working so i tried to update to 1.6.1. it's working but it's seems that i cant boot it using chameleon,it's just there blue screen coming out any suggestion?
Install and Boot successful, but only in safe mode. How do i get it to boot normally?
installed on Gigabyte h55m-s2h, i3 530
Thanks
Tony.
Will this add support for any new video cards?
Failed on Foxconn H55MXV with i3 530.
Tried retail install but stopped saying "Still waiting for root device".
Anyway, many thanks for your great tutorial.
@anonymous "Failed on Foxconn H55MXV with i3 530":
please visit the forum...this issue can be solved easily ;-)
geez..........i think it's just not work on my device..........i have an Asus A42J laptop, Core i5-430M, 4GB DDR3, ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 1GB, intel HM55 chipset......i've used flags -v, -f, -x, arch=i386, -x32, cpus=1, busratio=17, busratio=19 and any other flag boot that is recommended to me.....but i always get kernel panic........hiks.........:'(
the new iboot supported works beautifully, but after replacing the mach_kernel I get kernel panics because it can't find the preboot files it's looking for. Is it necessary to copy the preboot.dmg as well, and if so, to /extra?
hi i use 10.3.1 Vanilla Kernel ,if i use iboot cd-rom boot than i any driver is ok but i find my cpu dual-core intel xeon 3.2G,but i use i5 650,and if i not use new iboot boot my pc ,my sound and lan is not work,so please tell me how to i do?? thank
hey tony,
absolutely great job! great videos, blog, and forum! big ups to the whole community too. its so much fun to build a system on your own rather than just buy a mac. you have inspired me to to it again after quite some time..
i work in postproduction and i'm about to do a serious build very soon. i picked all of the parts meticulously with your help and the info everyone else is posting. so thanx again!
please check out this board - its the ASUS P7F7-E WS SuperComputer - just came out. i'd love to hear your thoughts about it. just posted a thread on the forum too.
keep up the good work & cheers!
cine.
iBoot Supported + Gigabeast = piece of cake
GA-P55-USB3
Core i7 860
eVGA 9800 GTX+
4 GB GSkill DDR3 1600
HP 2509 LCD
ASUS SATA DVD-R/W
Have 10.6.3 installed by iBoot/MultiBeast/EasyBeast/non-supported CPU on Zotac H55-ITX WiFi, i3 530 with VoodooHDA and busratio=22: working great. DL iBoot Supported, cloned hard drive and swapped in the 10.3.1 kernel and get early boot time panic with unsupported cpu. So the question is "i3" really supported in 10.3.1?
I was able to boot and install 10.6.0 under the old iboot nvidia cd although not without -x flag.
With this new disc i can boot up my previous installation without -x (i think this has something to do with my GT 330M graphics and the alternate graphics support included in the new disc)
If i try and do a fresh installation of 10.6.3 from a USB drive with iboot supported i get the "still waiting for root device" error.
Has something been removed which would cause me to get this error?
If everything is working with the current (older) kernel, is there any reason to replace it with the new one?
Thanks.
Core i5-661 is working. With a Biostar TH55D Motherboard and Geforce GTS250. USB didn't work after 10.6.3 update until I used Multibeast to fix it.
on msi P55-CD53 + G6950 + 9800 GT-512
Iboot (nvidia) + 10.6.0 won't work
Iboot-supported start but don't see my Seagate 7200.12 500G sata (disk utility freeze)
with 1To caviar green It's OK and disk-utility from fresh install can format my Seagate. So i retried on it, but installation process freeze.
Iboot-supported won't work with new DVD Maj 10.6.3. keyboard doesn' work at language installation choice and stop process.
Hello everybody, hello Tony,
I'm Anengsto! I replaced my (well working) kernel with that included in I Boot supported.
Now I have a lovely 64bit Snow Leopard nicely running on my PC (mobo: Asus P5QC p45, CPU: intel core2 duo E8500 @3,16GHz).
Sometimes I have problems in turning off or restarting the PC. It takes too long a time to do it, so I have to stop it by power button!
Anything about this issue?!
Thank you in advance!
Just to clarify, we follow the original iboot+multibeast guide but replace the iboot with iboot supported?
Thanks
Hi Toni,
thanks for your great work. Is it possible to install from retail 10.6.3 right away? Do I have to start with earlier versions?
Thanks
Installed two days ago, everything works as it should, except Sleep, but i dont really need that, os osx starts very quickly and i pwer off everything, when not at the pc/hac.
Its just fantastic, Played Warhammer and my steam titles, watched tv and so on, just great.
Continue with the great work!
I saw about a 7% performance increase according to GeekBench 64-bit. I ran it about a half dozen times in both kernels. Works well with Asus P6X58D-E.
i7-820QM (EliteBook 8540w) works with Darwin 10.3.1.
Should most people use iBoot Supported? I have a Core2 Duo and a nVidia card in my laptop.
No worky on core i7-920, possibly because there is no AHCI option in my BIOS? Full story here:

Hi Tony!
I have BIG problem with newest iBoot Supported. It stucks on 'Still waiting for root device', but only when i try to boot from Installation DVD. System from HDD boots properly.
Have u got old version of iBoot so i can install OS X 10.6.3? It's very important for me to have it installed asap.
Btw. I have Samsung R580 i5-430M
Omfg.... Somehow my BIOS reseted AHCI to "Auto"- that was causing "waiting for root".... 3 hours.... And i didn't even thought about checking BIOS until now :/
great work Tony!!!! :) i love your iBoot!
Works perfectly in my acer aspire 7741g (i3 330M).
But what's the method to make the "Graphics Mode" switch permanent ? I modified Boot.plist under /Library/Preferences/... but it doesn't affect anything. If I don't type it explicitly at iBoot interface I always get a 1024x768 screen ...
I've been running 10.6.4 for a few weeks now, but when I started using iboot supported as my bootloader, my EVGA GeForce 9800GTX+ card stopped being supported (this manifests as screen tearing and a broken dvd player program). Anybody have any idea what might've changed between the two releases as far as GPU support is concerned?
I tried iBoot Supported and iBoot ATI. With both of them, when I insert SL retail DVD, the screen goes black and disconnects. I tried with -v -x option. Didn't see any errrors. The below is my configuration. Any help appreciated:
Core i7 875 K
DDR3 1600 8 GB (I also tried with 4 GB)
H55-USB3 - Motherboard
ATi Radeon HD 5670
Thanks,
-J
This CD is GREAT - with one exception. How can you pass other COMMAND LINE parameters (i.e. acpi=off) to the APPLE INSTALL DVD?
My hangs every time at the ACPI: System State [S0 S3 S4 S5] (S3) screen and will not any further. There is no setting in my BIOS on the TOSHIBA to change the Power Mgmt settings.
Thanks,
Curtis
for me everything worked fine and installed the retail copy of Snow Leopard 10.6.0 on my Dell Inspiron 5010n with Core i3-350m.
only post installation, drivers for wifi, bluetooth, and ethernet and Ati 5470 graphics is remaining. Please Help me.
and Also Confirmed that it works on Core i3-350m cpu.
I installed SL 10.6 in my Acer Aspire laptop with I3-350M processor. I was able to upgrade to 10.6.2 with no issues but everytime I try to upgrade to 10.6.3 or 4, it fails at "moving files.." and get a reboot (in 4 different languages). Reboot hangs at the grey apple screen. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for the help!
I just installed MAC OS X 10.6 on my laptop Samsung R480 with Intel Core i3 330M, 4GB RAM, Intel Integrated HD Graphics, using Supported iBoot, everything was fine, but when I upgrade to version 10.6.3 or 10.6.4 I get the kernel panic screen after installation, any suggestions to solve this?, I really need the Snow Leopard, because I want to develop for iOS 4
Installed snow leopard on a acer 5741 i3 350m, but can't upgrade to 10.6.3 or 10.6.4, how can i get around this?
Thanks
@Curtis
Just type
in the iBoot screen and after you insert the retail dvd write down
acpi=off
right before you hit enter "you may include any flag you want such as -x -v"
and notice your command will be written at the bottom of the screen
is this working on intel quadcore processors too? with asus pq5 mobo, and radeon hd 4670??
Just fyi, core i3, 350m = not supported. I can confirm - it won't even install multiboot.
Installed via IBoot Supported SL 10.6.3 (retail DVD) with mach kernel 10.3.1 on Acer Aspire 5741 Core I3 350M. I am able to boot from the hard drive and am using a Linksys WUSB100 internet adapter. Only issue is with Intel HD graphics and built in webcam (detected in System profiler but have blank image in Photo Booth). Patience and perseverance are key to a succesful install.

Hello,
I'm a newcomer to Macs and I've been reading over this forum and others for the last 48 hrs and not able to get my audio to work on my Hackint0sh.
I have a MSI P31 Neo2 mobo with a ALC888 audio chipset.
When I boot into my SL 10.6.3 using the iBoot CD, I am able to get all features to work, inc Sound, Network & Graphics.
BUT, after I've done MultiBeast and tried various options ( i've tried more than 5 diff HDA.kext files, as well as the options provided by MultiBeast) and none of them are able to get my audio back...
Some Kext files, enable the audio, but there is no sound coming in my speakers.
But, if I were to boot using my iBoot disc and then go to MacOS, my sound works fine. When in System inspector, it shows that There is no Built-in audio though...
can someone please help me setup my Chameleon to boot the same way as the iBoot does, so that I can have my sound and not have to boot from the CD everytime or let me know what I am not doing correctly..
TIA!
