iBoot Supported - with Vanilla Kernel for all i3/i5/i7s

NOTE: iBoot is now a permanent replacement for iBoot NVIDIA, iBoot ATI, and iBoot Supported.

The iBoot + MultiBeast installation method has been out for a bit over a month and it's been really great to hear your success stories.  I've created an updated iBoot with few new features called iBoot Supported.

As of MacBook Pro Software Update 1.3, and Apple's release of the Core i5 and i7 MacBook Pros, many more Core i processors, possibly all, are natively supported by Mac OS X.  Part of this software release is a new kernel, known as 10.3.1 Darwin Kernel.  One of it's key new features is to enable support for the new MacBook Pro CPUs, namely the Core i5-520M, Core i5-540M, and Core i7-620M.  So now we can use this kernel to support these and many other Core i3/i5/i7 processors for our Hackintoshes.

What does iBoot Supported offer that iBoot doesn't?
  1. No need for busratio=xx for Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processors to boot the Retail DVD.
  2. Updated kernel for use with 10.6.3.  You can use iBoot Supported without ever installing Chameleon if you want to. This makes it a great rescue disk option as well.
  3. ATY_Init.kext alternative graphics card support.
  4. Install Succeeded!   You'll no longer get the Install Failed message at end of install. You'll now see this nice message:

Another great thing about iBoot Supported is that by testing it, you can determine whether your processor is supported or not.  If you can boot iBoot Supported, you can use the 10.3.1 Vanilla Kernel.

To replace your kernel with the 10.3.1 Vanilla Kernel, use MultiBeast 2.0.0 or later.

Below is a list of all Intel Core i CPUs.  If iBoot Supported works for you, post your processor in the comments below, or in the forum here.  Then I'll add it to this table.  My hypothesis is that all of them will work, but we'll have to see.  As always, any Core Solo and Core2 machines will work.  Pre-Core Intel CPUs and AMD CPUs will not work,

Please help me test this!  I'm really curious to see if it actually supports all of these!  Good luck!

    @Anonymous-

Thanks for the info- forgot about the 6-core Core i7-980X! Unfortunately these aren't supported by OS X yet. Better stick to the patched kernel for now. ;)

Yes! I finally got all my 6 Gb of ram working!
It worked until I installed chameleon from the multibeast package, so now i know where the error is.

Everything works like a charm with iBoot. Sound, Graphics and memory.

CPU Finally showing as i5 750 (Dual Xeon before)
RAM Speed is finally correct 1550 MHz (1333 before)
Finally able to boot from the HDD.

I still get performance issues with the interface. Example: if I enable 2 widgets at the same time, the "water" effect isn't smooth at all. I thought it was a graphics card problem, but I can play Portal at maximum on FullHD.

    NTFS partitions don't work anymore.

DSDT and SMBIOS are ignored, shows dual core xeon, ram does not report actual frequency, audio freezes after returning from sleep.
Supported 64bit kernel and extensions but only support vanilla, instead ignores DSDT :-(

Tony, we keep waiting for you to release the new multibeast?

Will X58 boards work with this? I am trying to wrap my head around all of this.

    Tony,

Thank you so much for your efforts. I'm running Snow Leopard on an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro motherboard with an EVGA GTX 295 2nd Edition. No DSDT was required for me. Sleep is also working. Running the 10.3.1 kernel as well.

    It's unbelievable.

I booted using the iBoot ATI 2-10-2010 CD with an ATI 4850.

The thing is that Preboot.dmg from iBoot Supported (Extensions.mkext) fails with my ATI 4850 card. Therefore, I copied mach_kernel from here to your previous iBoot ATI CD afterwards.

    What about the GTX 295? I have 3 extensions under /Extra/Extensions. They are: IOUSBFamily.kext, NVGTX295.Fix.kext and SleepEnabler.kext.

Using gfxutil, I found the pciroot entry to use for my template and created the hex dump to add to the /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist file.

CUDA is functional on both GPUs. I saw a combined 920 GFLOPs when running 2 nBody demos simultaneously.

I'm also using the IOUSBFamily.kext 10.6.2 under SLE. That's the only thing changed under SLE. Otherwise, it's 99% vanilla.

    Hi Tony,

Following your instructions, the installation on my new Thinkpad T510, Core i7-620M, 512MB NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M, original 10.6.0 SL installation DVD, comes to a grinding halt when it reaches the OSX installation screen. Is it a good idea to upgrade the OSX installation DVD to version 10.6.3 or won't that make a difference?

    Up and running fantastic! i5 750, Gigabyte P55-USB3, DDR3-1600, 8800GT, etc.

Have 10.6.3 installed by iBoot/MultiBeast/EasyBeast/non-supported CPU on Zotac H55-ITX WiFi, i3 530 with VoodooHDA and busratio=22: working great. DL iBoot Supported, cloned hard drive and swapped in the 10.3.1 kernel and get early boot time panic with unsupported cpu. So the question is "i3" really supported in 10.3.1?

    Anonymous said...

I was able to boot and install 10.6.0 under the old iboot nvidia cd although not without -x flag.

With this new disc i can boot up my previous installation without -x (i think this has something to do with my GT 330M graphics and the alternate graphics support included in the new disc)

If i try and do a fresh installation of 10.6.3 from a USB drive with iboot supported i get the "still waiting for root device" error.

Has something been removed which would cause me to get this error?

    Hello everybody, hello Tony,

I'm Anengsto! I replaced my (well working) kernel with that included in I Boot supported.

Now I have a lovely 64bit Snow Leopard nicely running on my PC (mobo: Asus P5QC p45, CPU: intel core2 duo E8500 @3,16GHz).

Sometimes I have problems in turning off or restarting the PC. It takes too long a time to do it, so I have to stop it by power button!

    Anything about this issue?!

    Thank you in advance!

and notice your command will be written at the bottom of the screen

    Hello,

BUT, after I've done MultiBeast and tried various options ( i've tried more than 5 diff HDA.kext files, as well as the options provided by MultiBeast) and none of them are able to get my audio back...

Some Kext files, enable the audio, but there is no sound coming in my speakers.

But, if I were to boot using my iBoot disc and then go to MacOS, my sound works fine. When in System inspector, it shows that There is no Built-in audio though...

can someone please help me setup my Chameleon to boot the same way as the iBoot does, so that I can have my sound and not have to boot from the CD everytime or let me know what I am not doing correctly..

    TIA!

    Hi TonyMac-
Attempting to install SnowLeo 10.6.3 retail DVD on the following:
    GA-H55M-USB3 v1.0 bios=F11
    i5-650
    Corsair 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz

Can get basic installation complete using iBoot, but even after running MultiBeast 3.9 with the correct DSDT from database, reboot hangs with black/grey screen stating to "reboot computer".....HELP!
Would I be better off using iBoot Supported, rather than regular iBoot?
    Thanks,
    2XJTN
