Yesterday we were all a bit shocked by Apple's announcement of it's next operating system OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Everyone's super excited about it, and registered Apple Developers ($99/yr) now have full access to the OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 1. Initial reports are that the download and installation procedure is just as easy for Mountain Lion as it was for Lion.
- No installation discussion.
- No posting of pre-release files.
- No discussion of pre-release features under Apple's non-disclosure agreement.
- Anyone who blatantly disregards this policy will be banned.
It won't be long before the official release- they're saying this summer!

is the DP working with hackintoshes that already have lion installed? as in, can you just update fine or what breaks?
Can't you read?
"No installation discussion."
Have fun creating Multibeast for Mountain Lion ;)
nice i will try it tomorow :)
I'm super super stoked for this. I was wondering the other week what the next installment would be.
Maaannn, i only just downloaded OS X Lion on Monday, hope they gimme a free or discounted upgrade when OS X Mountain Lion is released !
Anonymous isn't very nice!
Cayman works natively in 10.8

6970 and 6950 works fine in OSX 10.8, woohoo.
@netkas....
Looks like older hardware will not be supported
- Any Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook from late 2007 – late 2008 (Model Numbers: MB061*/B, MB062*/B, MB063*/B, MB402*/A MB403*/A MB404*/A, MB402*/B)
- The Mid-2007 Mac mini (Model Numbers: MB138*/A, MB139*/A)
- The polycarbonate iMac of late 2006 (Model Number: MA710xx/A)
- The original MacBook Air which dropped in early 2008 (Model Number: MB003LL/A)
Just watched a video and read about the new features. Its very iOS but it looks good.
Can't say I'm super stoked about this...
All it really does is add all of the absolutely most useless iOS5 features like Twitter Integration, Apple TV airplay mirroring (I live in Denmark, only cavemen use Apple TV here, it takes literally 0 channels haha), location based reminders (on an iMac all I can say is wohooolol), and the notification center's default activation conflicts with the "go forward" on Safari.
But probably worst of all is Gatekeeper's "only allow applications from App Store" being enabled by default.
You just know it's going to force everyone on that damned store because if you're not, you're requiring people to hop into preferences and make themselves vulnurable to virus attacks.
It's like Microsoft and Internet Explorer, but worse; and if there's any justice in the world Apple WILL get sued over it if it makes it to release.
Sorry about the rant but I am not really that excited. At all. If they keep going in this direction, I may even take my actual Mac and turn it into a PC by deleting Mac OS X. And I definitely won't upgrade unless it's free.
The only good thing it does is note-syncing but... Evernote. Nevermind that, Ubuntu has had it since 2006.

@Ishayu
actually… the default is "apps from the app store OR app installed by registered apple developers". The developer pays $99 (which they likely already have) and their app can be installed, no entitlement / sandbox / etc. as long as they sign it. Apple has the ability to revoke a certificate for a developer however if something is deemed malware.
@Alex
No.
The default behavior is to only allow apps from the appstore. Another option is to allow signed apps from anywhere and apps from the appstore.
The third option is to allow apps from anywhere.
I'd be okay with the 2nd option, although it does make the Mac Platform ferociously difficult if not impossible to develop for for OSS movements and free software developers.
It's just plain not a good idea. Secure boot in Windows-land ain't a good idea, and this ain't a good idea either. It has nothing to do with security, and everything to do with vendor-control. Never convince yourself otherwise.

Done! 10.8 with spec:

* ODD : DRW Sony > Ok
* TP-Link 781ND Pcie Wifi Card --> Airport Extreme Ok
@Ishayu
There are a few things that come to my mind:
If a user doesn't know how to handle their computer (here, a Mac), so that they can't go into Settings and switch a single simple toggle... Than they might well be better with Apple's control, rather than out in the open.
This system has been working for iOS for a long time as you'd know, and given the choice, it's really not bad for "some" of the audience... Not you? Well, flip the switch... No need to rant there.
And, reminders app is not only for "location based" reminders, and it's not only your iMac that can run the OS. What's wrong with having the option?
Btw, what are your thoughts about Documents in The Could?

I am guessing you mean Northern Hemisphere summer...there are actually two summers a year and those with money can enjoy both of them ;-)
Dont kid yourselves. I knew this was coming ever since Mapple released the Mac App store. I knew that they would slowly end up making it the ONLY way to acquire apps on a Mac. I guarantee that by OS X 10.9 or OS XI that the App store will be your only venue.
Mapple is only interested in controlling your tech experience and not in giving you the freemdom to control your own experience.
I loved the idea of MiPhone and its speedy responsiveness...but since iOS was completely locked down I had to switch to Android (Galaxy Nexus, Vanilla 4.0.2. Rooted with working NFC wallet).
There remains some freedom in OSX, it is slowly being taken away as OSX becomes iOS (Jail).
Please help us stop the madness!
I'll take the bet Staj, how much?
from the video it doesnt inerest me at all... looks like it is made for tweet obsessed individuals... other than that there is no real functional advantage...
OSX 10.8 is going to drop support for 32 bit kernel extensions, so anyone running hardware that runs the Intel X3100 graphics chip won't be able to run 10.8 due to there being no 64 bit kext for that chip.
Cook mentioned that they are not ruling out unifying the CPU for all Mac products. Not good, since that is likely to be Apple's own ARM processor (e.g. A5).
That will pretty much kill Hackintosh.
I was perfectly happy with 10.6, now on 10.7.3 some things don't work anymore such as my ASUS wireless USB dongle.
I don't ever use the app launcher and all Apps purchased from developer sites - not from App store and perfectly happy with that too.
Point being, don't see how apple can force anything here. If you don't like it - don't buy it.
Current 10.7 hacks can be insanely-screaming fast, and thanks to ebay and such, current hardware will be avail for the foreseeable future.
In fact I have a small company of about 8 and all PCs we use are self built using new cases and new PSUs but dual or quad core 775 CPUs with 4-8GB RAM and everyone one get their job done.
- so don't worry - be happy.
The bottle neck that I experience is my broadband speed - nothing to do with OsX or my hardware.
For gaming I boot into Windows - so all in all - I'm just grateful to apple for OsX and an awesome PC experience.
We also have a couple of Win 7 machines and I equally happy to use those too.
Life's too short to be upset.
Hunting down the untamed cat.
I was hoping they would announce OS XI :)
I really don't know what to think about that mountain-lion. I look forward to see adobe move towards linux/ubuntu.
It seems that apple is moving away from pros...
Possibly Apple is moving towards $ or should I say more $
Sucessfully done!
Specs:
