One unique feature of the driver is the ability to alternate between 2 different layout-ids, enabling either most onboard devices, or HDMI audio with slightly limited onboard devices. For example, in order to get HD 3000 HDMI audio, you will need to change your layout id in your DSDT's HDEF section to 389. The default 889, used in the DSDT Database, will enable the optimal onboard analog and digital options.

Toleda's new patched AppleHDA for Realtek ALC 889 is available in the forum along with full documentation. A similar kext optimized for Realtek ALC 892 is also available now. Install using KextBeast.
After some testing, we'll be adding these to MultiBeast. Any feedback and comments are greatly appreciated!

Awesome!
How to use the new driver.
1. Delete ALC8xxHDA.kext and AppleHDA.kext from /System/LIbrary/Extensions.
2. Download toleda's new kext (either 889 or 892)
3. Put the AppleHDA.kext on the desktop
4. Run KextBeast
5. Reboot
Now if somebody with more knowledge than me could create a DSDT for MSI g31tm-p21, because a lot of people use it and it is long over due.
I installed the kext, but after restarting I have no audio devices listed in the audio settings.
I tried your steps Tony, but I lost audio. I see the AppleHDA.kext with today's date in S/L/E without the ALC universal kext. Puzzled.
Tony, can you explain what the advantage is of using a kext for audio versus editing your DSDT to enable it? I started a thread about it here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=44933
Thanks for all of your hard work!
Same here - lost audio on GA-Z68X-UD3 after installing the kext
lost audio on my GA-PH67-DS3-B3 with dsdt from DB TonyMac after installing the kext!
Ok- the upload is fixed- please leave all feedback in the thread, so we can get this thing perfect for MultiBeast. :D
Tonys last comments helped me out… audio is back!
I'm following the directions, mostly sure I'm downloading the right one (the 892 drivers are what was working before) and no joy. System Profiler shows i'm running an 889, but i downloaded 892. Its showing the device, but i can't selector the sound output. I've followed the troubleshooting steps, no joy. I have a GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3.
Disregard comment from Anonymous at 6:43. I mistaken thought I had an 892 because it was the combo 889/892 driver that made it work before. I installed the 889 version and I'm golden. Thanks.
What about suport for the 883? I still have bad popping for this chip
892 Works great with Asus X58 Sabertooth, using this solution.
Much appreciated and thanks to all.
Followed steps and still no audio.
I'm running an EVGA X58 Classified 3 which has the 889 driver and I'm booting from a USB (i installed lion using unibeast) I don't think I have chimera 1.7 installed, i've tried in the past, but kept getting KPs. any advice? thanks.
MSI X58 Pro-E ALC889 Doesn't work, there is no sound.
Any word on ALC269? Thanks!
889 is working great on Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3...so far I don't hear annoying popping...
Thanks.
noob question:
does this kext work with my asus p5ql-pro MB (ALC1200)?
thanks tony for your hard work!
no luck for patched DSDT G41MT-S2P REV (1.4) but after adding alc889 HDA then i got SOUND's GOOD :D
This worked perfect for me. I was slightly confused at first as to setting up the 5.1 device but after figuring that out everything was fine. Thanks!!!!!
Will there be a guide for HDMI audio on graphics cards or is that done completely differently?
Will this work on the 889a?
yeah, i have ALC889A also on my GA-EP45-DQ6.
i cant get audio proper working, i really want to use 5.1 :P :S:S..
thx for all the hard work so far ! ...
I have P55-USB3 with ALC892 codec and currently using other modified AppleHDA v2.1.1 and I got my front Audio panel + MIC to work. UNFORTUNATELY this one DOES NOT give me front MIC audio panel. Yes I am using DSDT from the database.
Are these kexts only for Lion, or can they be used in a SL Machine ( obviously not for use with built in HD 3000 graphics as that via Lion only... ) ?
Thank you for this. Using with the P8Z68-V Pro and made all the difference for me. Sound is much clearer and good to have only one kext now as well.
Can this be used for ADI AD2000N somehow? I still use AppleHDARollback from MultiBeast + AD2000B.kext from the internet + a DSDT from the internet.
No work on GA-P67A-UD3-B3.
My DSDT say: "dsdt Is Resource Template, but End Tag not at buffer end"
Thx Tony.
Thx All.
A little clarification please. Both the post and the label suggest this is Lion only. Yet, later you state you want to get this "perfect for MultiBeast".
If it's a Lion thing only, don't you mean UniBeast?
If you, in fact, meant MultiBeast can we feel assured this is Snow Leo ready?
Installed this morning. No issues to report.
Everything works well.
Thanks, you are a crack man
I have ALC889 on a GA-Z68X-UD4-B3, are DSDT edits required if I use the most current DSDT from tonymacx86 database. The default setup appears to be for ALC889. In the post it states that "It is designed to be an alternate or replacement for the combination of both AppleHDA Rollback and ALC8xxHDA. Proper DSDT edits are still required." Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks
Do you suffer from pops? I'm using the GA-H67N-USB3-B3 F7. Deleted the two kexts and run this kext with kextbeast then restarted. Still have popping anyone know when this will be sorted and was there popping on SL with AL889?
edit... Sorry USB3-B3
gracias tony mac and team finally HDMI on Home made mac mini
GA-H67N-USB3-B3 F7.... open dsdt edit Compile DSDT install DSDT on Extras.....
Thank you TMX86.
On my MacMini GA-H67N-USB3-B3 F7 Snow leopard 10.6.8 with Custombeast , I have deleted the AppleHDA.kext and installed the new one. Works well.
Sound is now very good on my XtremeMac Tango.
Does have I to edit my DSDT or not ?
Copy appleHDA.on desktop run kex bit edit DSDT install extras reboot connect HDMI on second port under USB... Sorry my English
It works great. No more popping noise during startup. GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 F12. Thank you.
GA-P55-USB3 rev1 F8
does this driver work with my specs? i think i have the ALC888 audio chipsets
would appretiate an answer, because i love tonys work! :)
works fine for me
GA-H67A-USB3-B3 (ALC889)
I have confined that the 892 works with the Asus p8z68-v/GEN3, and can even confirm that the 889 works with the XFX HD6770 (Flashed to 5770) for HDMI out (DSDT edits for both). The only issue here is that since each model requires separate patched kexts, only one can be used at a time.
I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 which uses an 889. I installed this thinking it would finally resolve my issues I have with the front ports not working correctly. (Headphones work but a mic plugged into teh port only works half the time or not at all).
After installing this, the mic just gets picked up as static. I basically HAVE to use my back ports which is annoying. Is this fixable at all?
GA-Z68M-D2H
10.7.2 / chimera 1.7.0
using new kext, fixed permissions
HDMI audio is not working for me.
Works fine when i boot into windows.
Whatsup????
Using this on X58A-UD3R Bios Firmware FG and it's working great! I have it connected via toslink. I tried analog audio, works great, front ports don't auto switch but still work great, and the toslink works great. Sound sounds better. Much happier now than before.
Worked great on my Z68X-UD3H-B3! Thank you guys for your hard work!
Appears to work very well on my spanking new GA-Z68XP-UD3P-F3 build. Only tested analog output so far, but that's probably all I'll care about, don't really need HDMI output.
10.7.2
i7 2600K
GA-Z68XP-UD3P-F3
Working better than the ALC8xx but no mute :(
anyone able to fix sound/mic issue on probook4530s using this updated driver?
Thanks!! I finally have sound on my GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3. It did require a bit of work though to first get the right device reporting under my System Information, since it was reporting I had Audio ID: 892 (the motherboard actually has 889). I finally got it reporting 889 and eventually 389. I'm sure I went about the whole procedure backwards and sideways, but eventually got it to work with both built-in audio and HDMI audio. For HDMI audio the DSDT edits were not that bad to do, just a lot of reading since I needed to also do the steps in "Demystifying HDMI Audio in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion" from the link above. Thanks again!!
Not that I ever had any problems before, but this is working fine on the GA-Z68X-UD4-B3.
10.7.3
i7 2600K
GA-Z68X-UD4-B3
GV-R685OC-1GD
I've updated OS X to 10.7.3 ans this is working fine.
GA-P67A-UD3P-B3, BIOS ver. F7
i5-2500k
it's working on my Snow Leopard GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3, SUPERB!
GA-P67-DS3-B3 OK!
Has anyone been successful getting
Dolby digital or Dts via Optical out working with this?
GA-Z68MA D2H B3
Lion 10.7.2
Built in Line out works, optical works ( 2 channel only)
Can't get proper Hdmi support and acceleration( sapphire hd6870)
Only thing left and it's goodbye Windows!
My motherboard is MSI p55-g55
I just used the kext and I am experiencing a little less audio popping but its not completely normal yet.
Anyone else have this motherboard who have gotten this sorted out yet?
Z86X-UD3H-B3 MB and I have tried all suggestions I can find, and still no optical out.
Any ideas?
Doug
I have GA-H67N-USB3-B3 and my sound is lost after update to 10.7.3 can i use this patch ?
Hi, I noticed while using the 892 version,
that after Sleep my system requires an extra key press to wakeup the monitor, can anyone confirm this ?!
Hi all, i'm still having problems with my GA-H61-D2-B3 rev 1.0 F8. Tryed more than 5 steps without success. Only Appears in System Preferences, an Intel Default, with ID 889 and No sound available. Thanks
