Here's a great introduction to a working Mac OS X installation on PC hardware. The video explains the function and location of the Chameleon/Chimera boot file, /Extra folder, DSDT, .plist files, and .kext files. Produced and narrated by one of our mods, StingRay.

Una traducción al castellano seria una pasada. A ver si alguien se la curra.. xD 1 saludo, thx Tony.
great overview - wish i had this when i first started
great love it :-) now i know why macpro 4.1 definition is not working :D
Useful video and I hate to be "that guy" but... the X is actually in Roman numerals - it's pronounced:
"Mac OS 10" - since it followed Mac OS 9.
Just a quick tidbit of information! :)
Thank you Dean! Very informative little video.
Interesting video thank you. I am hoping one day I will understand how revoboot works, I just cannot get my mind around it and fully understand the use of the tiny SSDT.
@chrisaw
No you mean if followed OSIX "Mac 'O'SIX" ;)
Yeah I knew that, but I like my "EX"'s :)
Brilliant! LOL. Great video, I wish it were around when I first started Hackintoshing, it would have saved me some time! Thanks!
And yeah, it's OS "10" not "EX". I'm surprised people still make that mistake. Come to think of it, I've even heard some Apple Store employees call it "EX" before.
@chrisaw
I also hate to be "that guy," but it would have been pronounced "decem" by a Latin speaker.
Yet another tidbit of information.
That video is awesome, some really great info that is presented well. Please keep it coming, looking forward to some more. I am really interested in how to identify and fix kernel panics.
IS THAT YOU TALKING ON THE VIDEO?
@MarkR:
Then check out the guy's channel, he has done another video on an intro to KP's
Thx I never knew why Mac pro 3,1 was selected by default .. Good vid
Awesome! My hat is off to all of you!
awesome! no offensive, but these are much more useful than the cutesy animations. Thanks Dean! and Macman for introducing here.

This is a great video introduction to a newbie like me.
Is this information WRITTEN DOWN anywhere? My main problem with this site is that there are many acronyms that I don't recognized, and the site seems to give a lot of details but no big picture. (Plenty of trees, but where's the forest?) Your video is a big help here, but I'd like to be able to read more (and LESS ;-) detail.
My background is lots of Linux (not much low-level knowledge though) and, more recently, Windows 7. It's been years (1990-ish) since I've used a Mac.
I'm okay with OS "X", I hear both "X" and "10" in common usage. Great set of videos Stingray.
I enjoyed the tractor pulls and the tuca tuca dance too :)
