USB 3.0 Now Supported in Mac OS X

USB 3.0 is now supported in Mac OS X!  LaCie released drivers today for their new line of USB 3,0 PCI-E and ExpressCard controllers.  Download the drivers here.

The device identifies as USB Super-Speed Bus in System Profiler and IORegistryExplorer.  USB 2.0 devices are confirmed working on these USB 3.0 ports.  We haven't had a chance to test USB 3.0 devices.  Our initial testing was done on GA-H55N-USB3, GA-P55A-UD4P and the GA-X58A-UD3R.

We need more testers! Report your findings in the tonymacx86 Forum here.

UPDATE:
LaCie's driver is working only on specific LaCie devices.  Luckily, we've been tipped off to a patched version of the kext, which enables any USB 3.0 device.  Available in the latest MultiBeast. You can test speeds using Xbench, then target any drive plugged to the USB 3.0 ports.  Please post any stats in the forum!

Someday maybe we'll get SATA III and TRIM support in OSX. Maybe once the iPad gets it. /eyeroll

Sweet...

@mastahonetrack: Thanks for linking Stephen Foskett's post...

What a dumb decision !...

Let me ask you... Would you buy a car knowing it can only run on brand-X fuel ?... I doubt so !

LaCie... Cherish these precious moments (they won't last much)...

This questionable decision will sooner or later backfire when they realize it harms their own legit customers...

The community will find ways around it... and eventually, they'll have to remove this artificial limitation.
It's just a matter of time !

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with an intel i5 430M, 2.27Ghz, intel and ati switchable graphics card.I am trying to install a retail version of Mac OS X 10.6.3. I have been at this all weekend with no success. This are the steps that I have taken: 1. Download the lastest iBOOT and burn it to a DVD 2.Boot the computer using the disk and follow the instructions. 3. Removed the disk and put in the retail version of Mac OS X 10.6.3 and pressed F5 4.Boot Mac OS X 10.6.3 (now this is where I have the problem) I get to the grey screen with the apple logo and and dark grey box is there to meet me with a message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again". Please help. I have look everywhere but still cannot get this work with my laptop. I saw on one forum that it Mac OS X 10.6.3 is not compatible with i core processor and that I would have to upgrade to 10.6.4, if this is the case how would I go about doing this? Thank you all so very much with this issue.

Installed and shows up on my P55A-UD3 board but when I attach my USB 3.0 External Drive it is not found. Does find USB 2.0 devices such as a USB key.

Connected a Freecom 750GB USB 3.0 2.5inch drive to my PC using the USB 3.0 port of the Gigabyte Ga-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (Rev 1.3, BIOS F8) mainboard.

XBench reports 67MB/s reads and 55MB/s writes which is of course faster than USB 2.0.

I used the drive from MultiBeast 4.1.0.
Nice!
